Capture then extract: enshittification is coming for AI too

Reading 'Enshittification' alongside Microsoft's licence hikes and Anthropic's unsustainable running costs, this post argues enshittification is a matter of when, not if.

I keep talking about Enshittification because I’m about to finish the book… it’s taken a moment to finish it, lots of things on at the moment.

I’d highly recommend reading it, it explains whats happening with the US the platforms we use, and critically what the UK should be doing on a regulation point of view.

Obviously this is the authors view, but when you see the decimation of the high street (Amazon), of private hire taxi’s (Uber), and impacts from Social Media (just name them) you get to see the bigger picture.

The bigger picture: Capture then Extract.

I really like Anthropic but I am incredibly cautious, they’re building a platform and we KNOW the cost of running it is greater than what they charge: so I say… Enshittification WILL come, it’s not a matter of if, it’s when and how.

Microsoft is already starting the enshittification process, why? because it already has the captured audience.

This should be a primary organisation risk.
